<image:title>Home - The Brooklyn Dukes | 2025 Record: 19-6-1 | Result: Knocked out in the Championship Game by the Mud Hens</image:title>
<image:caption>The Brooklyn Dukes are one of the most storied franchises in New York City baseball. Tracing their roots all the way back to the 1930s when current manager, Carlyle Leach’s uncle, Gerald, pulled a team together in the outer reaches of Brooklyn. The team has been continuously running in one form or another ever since but Carlyle and his son, Auguste Leach, have been at the helm for years now and have been dominating the Pancho Coimbre Baseball League for the past six. You could say the 2020s have truly been the decade of the Dukes, seeing them appear in the last five Championships and taking home the trophy in three of those appearances. Last year, however, that dominance was dealt a blow when they suffered a sweep at the hands of the Mud Hens in the Championship. But don’t count the Dukes out. They used that defeat to ignite a new flame and now with David Williams helping guide the ship they are sure to be back as strong as ever. Prediction: With the fearsomely competitive core of James Usher, David Williams, Auguste Leach, Myles Carter, Daniel Davidoff, and Daniel Brodie providing the offensive and defensive firepower and the big arms of Usher, Mason Calafati, and Carson Schweickhardt holding down the rotation, the Dukes will see themselves back in the postseason and there is a very good chance this crew will find themselves battling for the trophy once again.</image:caption>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6025bc08520eeb43c0ed0a91/c4832857-d3d9-42e7-aba7-861c15162b55/Screenshot+2026-04-01+at+10.41.14%E2%80%AFAM.png</image:loc>
<image:title>Home - The New York Mud Hens | 2025 Record: 18-7-1 | Result: Defeated the Dukes in the Championship to be crowned Kings of the North Meadow</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mud Hens have been brandishing their bats and gloves around New York City for close to 20 years now (you can hear more about the team here) but this will be just their third year in the PCBL. But what a time it’s been. The Hens fought their way to the championship in their first two years in the league, dropping the ‘chip to the Dukes in 2024 and then returning the favor in 2025. As any Men’s League manager worth their salt knows, fielding competitive teams year in and year out is all about your pipeline and the Hens have managed a gifted pipeline almost since their inception. Guided by the steady hands of player managers Blake Lepire, Derek DeGroot, Jon Lewis, and Kevin Scheitrum, the Hens field a high-powered club year in year out, week in, week out. With a returning core of Alex Hartnett, Bobby Gorvetzian (he of the back-breaking home-run in game two of the championship last year), Dan Bonfiglio, and Sam Brinster, and a rotation anchored by the likes of Ethan Abrams, Henry Stellwagen, Connor (Tito) Cucalon, and the possible reemergence of Matt Eiel this 2026 roster has all the makings of another championship run. Prediction: It’s not hard to imagine this crew hoisting another trophy come August. But the core is another year older and they now very clearly have a target on their backs. Can they bring the same grit to 2026 that they did in 2025?</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - The Central Park Los Cubs | 2025 Record: 10-9-3 | Result: Missed the playoffs by one game</image:title>
<image:caption>Longtime North Meadow denizens, the Cubs got off to an historically slow start last season, losing seven of their first 13 games (and tying three times in that same stretch) before turning it on to win seven of their last nine games, narrowly missing the playoffs. With longtime manager, Solomon Prophete, leading the way, the Cubs can still smell the rarified air of a championship from when they beat the Dukes in the 2021 title game. However, times have changed, the league has gotten better and the championship days are getting a little harder to recall. But with stalwart outfielder Joaquin Sapien and ace Jake Simpson stepping in last season to help with the managerial duties, the Cubbies are looking to turn the corner now that they have a year of managerial experience under their belt. Predication: With Mark Minutaglio still holding down short, the pesky bat of Zach Mayer still driving in runs, and Jason Lu, Matt Mcquaid, and Matt Accetta joining Simpson to form a formidable rotation the days of postseason glory might not be too far away. And with an expanded playoff format the Cubs could very well claim a postseason spot. And if they do, watch out. August is the Cubs time if 2025 is any indicator.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Legends | 2025 Record: 16-7-3 | Result: Swept in the semis by the Mud Hens</image:title>
<image:caption>Entering their 24th year in existence the Legends are looking to shake off two years of too-early-exits from the post-season at the hands of the Hens. The 2010s could very easily be called the Legend(ary) decade — a ten year span in which they took home five trophies including three-peating from 2016 - 2018. However, the 2020s have not been nearly as kind. While they are perennial contenders they have found themselves on the outside looking in when the Championship games are being played. If managers Daniel Brickner and JT Cubano have anything to say about 2026, this is all about to change. Brickner has become an expert at unearthing free agent gems including Christian Angelov who threw a whopping 52 innings in 2025 while logging a very nice 1.346 ERA along the way. Angelov will be back to make a very tough 1 - 2 punch with Matteo Fochetta who logged 55 innings himself with a 1.400 ERA. Could Adam Schopick be 2026’s free agent find of the year? Backed by a high-powered offensive attack led by Cubano, Jesse Cooper-Leary, Darius Johnson, Soren Roe, Cato Bauer, Jason Lugo, Joseph Leeman, and catcher, Kenny Dorian could 2026 be the year they finally clear the Hen hurdle? Prediction: The Legends score even more runs than their 167 (nearly seven runs a game!) from 2025 and finally topple the Dukes and / or Mud Hens to get to the championship game.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - The Flatbush Owls | 2025 Record: 16-8 | Result: Ousted from the playoffs in the first round by the Harlem HA’s</image:title>
<image:caption>After a rough introduction to the PCBL in 2024 the Owls, under the guidance of co-managers, brothers AJ and Lucas Friedman, executed a remarkable turnaround in 2025 fielding one of the most feared teams in the league. Despite an early exit from the playoffs in some of the most dramatic post-season games ever played in the North Meadow, the Owls entered the offseason with an eye toward an even better 2026. The Owls return standouts like Franndy Rodriguez, John Flete, Julian Amorelli, and Jackson Emus to the line-up and have added the likes of lefty Jaasiel Rivera to compliment Emus, Ray Espinosa, Tim Lopez, and Raj Sharma to make a very tough rotation. This is a team that expects big things and for good reason. Prediction: Look for the Owls to be right in the thick of things from beginning to bitter end and if all the pieces fall just right there just might be a trophy going home to Flatbush.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Skyscrapers | 2025 Record: 2 - 20 | Result: Missed the playoffs</image:title>
<image:caption>The Skyscrapers came over to the PCBL two seasons ago and have had a rough go of it ever since. But it’s not for lack of talent. In fact, last season they were stacked and one of the sleeper teams predicted to go far. But that momentum never materialized and the ‘scrapers finished in cellar for their second year in a row. All of this may have been too much for longtime manager and New York City baseball man-about-town, Mozez Ortiz, to stomach as he decided to hand over the keys to the kingdom to teammate Andrew Field. As hard as change can be, sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed to spark a flame in a team. Will the talented crew finally be able to pull it all together and drag themselves up from the depths? Obviously it’s too early to tell but with the likes of Dan Meaney, Jared Slow, Chris Kane, and Dexter Garcia signing on for another run and a flurry of new faces acquired over the off-season, don’t put anything past them. Predication: The Skyscrapers finally get all their talent on the same page and driving toward the same goal to shock the PCBL by nabbing the newly created 7th playoff seed.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Harlem HA’s | 2025 Record: 14 - 11 - 1 | Result: Lost to the Dukes in the semi-finals.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Harlem HA’s are a force of nature. Led by charismatic co-managers Mario Padron and Matthew Leonte with an assist from Christopher Garcia (hear more about the HA’s here), the HA’s are an assemblage of highly talented ball players from all over the city. Their second year in the PCBL was a big jump up from an uneven rookie season and saw them narrowly miss a trip to the championship when they ran into the buzzsaw that is the Brooklyn Dukes. The HA’s, however, are not a team to get mired in setbacks and have been building a powerhouse that is sure to compete with the cream of the crop once again. They have the offense, the pitching, and the defense to get the job done. Their biggest challenge just might be…too much baseball? An odd thing to say, yes, but as they compete in numerous leagues throughout New York City, fielding competitive teams for the over 40 games they play in the spring and summer can be a daunting task. But if anyone is up to the task it’s the irrepressible Padron. Prediction: Look for the HA’s to, once again, be banging down the door of the championship.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Goats | 2025 Record: 10 - 11 - 1 | Result: Narrowly missed the playoffs.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Goats charged into the PCBL two years ago and immediately made their presence known going 13 - 12 in their inaugural season and grabbing a playoff spot. Though it was a quick exit they appeared to be set up for big things in 2025. Instead, they backslid. Not by much, as they went 10 - 11 - 1. But they did miss the playoffs as they appeared to simply run out of gas at the end of the season losing five of their final seven games. But don’t count out the barnyard staples. Managers Brendan Mapes, Kyle O’Rourke, Michael Behrens, and Milo Sklar are too competitive, and frankly, too good of ballplayers, to let another losing season take hold. A flurry of off-season moves and some rotation rejiggering should serve the team well. Look for them to be right in the playoff hunt when August arrives. Prediction: The Goats will be back in the playoff hunt and could go far if Sklar is back in action.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Kings County Monarchs | 2025 Record: 6 - 15 - 1 | Result: Missed the playoffs.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Monarchs, much like the Skyscrapers, have an abundance of talent but have simply had a tough time putting it all together. But when they have their roster present they are one of the more intriguing teams in the PCBL. Managers Justin Cutler and Rico Gardaphe have retooled this offseason for another run at the postseason. If they can get continuous contributions from the likes of AJ Ferrara, Ander Laresgoiti, Chase Jeter, Logan Sharp, Anthony Del Greco, and Jack Linehan, that quest might be closer than it appears. And if the rumors are true that the tough lefty Jeter might be taking the mound more in 2026 the Monarchs could prove to be a true contender. Prediction: The Monarchs will be battling till the final game of the season for that final, seventh playoff spot. From there, it’s anyone’s guess.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Triboro Tigers: 2025 Record: 6 - 15 | Result: Missed the playoffs</image:title>
<image:caption>The Tigers are another curious case of a group of talented ballplayers who have been unable to find their footing in the North Meadow. They have, however, made great strides in each of their four seasons. So, what does their fifth season in the PCBL hold? If managers Charles Armstrong, Leighton Schlanger, Marley Myrianthopoulos, and Michael Marel have their way, a trip to the post-season is in the offing. Of course, they will need to do more than envision a trip to the playoffs, they’ll have to perform on the field too. But after an off-season spent reconstructing they could be closer than they have been since their arrival in Central Park. If Walker Cleveland is around their chances will be that much better. And if Eli Kimbell contributes at the pace he has been, there could be some serious rumblings about breaking into the top team mix — especially if he climbs the hill every now and again. Add in new recruit Devin Irwin and a healthy dose of Chris Carroll, Alex Sanchez, and Jack Hendon and something special could be on the horizon. Prediction: The Tigers will be clawing and fighting their way for that 7th seed in the last week of the season.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The New York Mariners | 2025 Record: 5 - 16 | Result: Missed the playoffs</image:title>
<image:caption>After winning the PCBL Championship in 2019 the Mariners jumped ship to take their talents across the Hudson and then to Queens where they played good baseball. But the siren song of Central Park beckoned them home in 2025. If they were dreaming of a triumphant return they got a very rude awakening, greeted by a league that had dramatically improved since they last stepped on the hallowed grounds. Some management confusion, injuries, and a constantly shifting roster saw them finishing the season on a sour note. But managers Jaret Perez, Nate Rivera, and longtime Pancho Coimbre player / manager / grounds crew, Miguel Estrada, are no newbies and spent the offseason retooling, parting ways with Eric Perez (HA’s) and Mike Moreno (current free agent) and picking up high impact bat, Menra Mapfuma to compliment an already potent offense. If Jonathan Sanchez is back on the bump for the Mariners and new recruits like funky sidewinder David Pernick can deliver, the team could be knocking on the postseason door again. Prediction: The Mariners will make great strides from their disappointing 2025 season but will fall short of their postseason ambitions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Downtown Bulls | 2025 Record: 13 - 10 - 1 | Result: Bumped from the playoffs in the first round by the Legends.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Bulls have been on a remarkable upward trajectory since 2023, coinciding with the arrival of Matt Hochberg, Alonzo Cee, Lucas Furneri, Felix King, and Jared Sapirman. Though they have made the playoffs every season since they have come up frustratingly short in those appearances. This has caused management to constantly tinker with the roster in search of that magic formula that will take them to the promised land. This offseason is no different and saw some significant departures, namely co-manager Henry Ginna (new baby), lefty Sapirman (Chicago), and righty Mike Cellini (retired). But it also seen some big additions with Paolo Federico-O’Murchu and Ian Sales brought on to compliment an already tough staff featuring Matt Kelly, Keiber Guitierez, Will Davies, Zack Murphy, Eli Abreu, Jhona Padilla, and Kevin Collinge. With the return of Dylan Sanchez to the infield and the addition of Sam Myers in the outfield and Yoel Mieses behind the dish this club looks stacked and poised for a deep postseason run. But will it be enough to finally get them to the ‘chip? Prediction: The Bulls make it to the semis and if all goes according to plan, look for them in the Championship series.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Brooklyn Dukes | 2024 Record: 21-7</image:title>
<image:caption>The Dukes have gotten progressively better each year since 2018, culminating with the run they are currently on, appearing in four consecutive championships, winning the last three. The boys from Brooklyn are built on the backs of a strong core of regulars and a steady stream of solid new arrivals. Coach Carlyle Leach always seems to be able to coax the best out of his club and has them playing fundamentally sound baseball from opening day to the final out of the season. While they have been known for their pitching (anchored by the steady right arm of James Usher) and defense (with Auguste Leach, Kyle Diangkinay, Ryan Kass, and Daniel Davidoff holding down the infield and Myles Carter and David Williams patrolling the outfield) 2024 saw a power surge from the Dukes adding to an already lethal attack. But change may be afoot. The Dukes were a big presence at this year’s PCBL tryouts and draft, picking up a bunch of new talent. The Dukes are usually minor players at this annual event so this was a real change from years past. What does it mean? Your guess is as good as anyone’s as the notoriously tight-lipped club rarely shares their off-season moves. One significant shift has been confirmed: the “retirement” of longtime team leader, infielder Diangkinay.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Mudhens | 2024 Record: 20-9</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mudhens made the leap to the PCBL last season after years of ripping up the Metro League. Picking up right where they left off they cruised to a regular season record tie with the Dukes and the Legends. Despite one of the biggest postseason upsets ever (coming from 6 behind in the 9th inning against the Legends) they couldn’t keep the good times rolling in the ‘chip, getting swept in the best of three series to the Dukes. The Mudhens are fueled by a strong core of returning players including Blake Lepire, Kev Scheitrum, Dan Bonfiglio, and Derek Degroot, and a steady stream of college recruits. Last season they had the services of longtime Hen pitching prodigy, Matt Eiel, and Eiel did not disappoint. The side-winding right put up silly numbers including a .432 ERA over 41 2/3rds innings. But Eiel was lost to a cross country move mid-playoffs and it doesn’t look like he’ll be back. That’s a big arm to replace. But if anyone can do it it’s probably the Mudhens.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Legends | 2024 Record: 17 - 9</image:title>
<image:caption>The Legends are the last team to three-peat in the PCBL (2016, 2017, 2018) and have seemingly always been in the hunt for the championship trophy since their formation as a team over 20 years ago. Last season looked like it might be their year (again) with the addition of ace Walker Cleveland but a 9th inning meltdown in the semi-finals against the Mudhens found the perennial contenders heading home sooner than anyone expected. The off-season has presented its own set of unique challenges to co-managers Daniel Brickner and J.T. Cubano. In a series of big off-season moves, Cleveland and catcher Jake Sage jumped ship to join up with the Tigers and co-ace, righty Eric Perez moved over to the Mariners while Jorge Lopez is taking his big lefty bat and solid 1st base glove to the Goats. Replacing Cleveland and Perez’s 1-2 punch in the rotation will be no easy task. Cleveland threw 40 ⅓ innings producing a .868 ERA while Perez threw 54.1 innings with a 1.546 ERA, good enough for 3rd and 4th in the league respectively.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Downtown Bulls | 2024 Record: 15 - 12</image:title>
<image:caption>The Bulls continued their long climb out of the PCBL basement in 2024, having their best season in the league yet only to run into the buzz-saw that was the Championship winning Dukes in the semi-finals. But the Bulls appear to be living by the old adage of “what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger” making some impressive off-season moves that they are banking on putting them over the edge in 2025. A full, healthy season from the likes of catcher / infielder Felix King, Alonzo Cee, and Keiber Gutierrez should prove to be a big boon. Key additions like righties Kevin Collinge and phenom rookie Maximus Maldonado, paired with Gutierrez and 2nd year ace Matt Kelly, should make a formidable rotation. Still, the off-season also saw a lot of turnover as longtime ace and innings eater, Paulie Baumann Jr. hung up the spikes and big time run producer, Jonathan Flete, bailed for the Bandits in the Metro League. Additionally questions surround lefty ace Jared Saipirman and righty Mike Cellini.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Los Cubs | 2024 Record: 13-11-1</image:title>
<image:caption>Manager Solomon Prophete’s Los Cubs are a Central Park staple, having won the ‘chip in 2021 and dropping the trophy to the Dukes in 2023. They appeared in the playoffs last year narrowly losing their do or die play-in game to the Bulls, 4-2. 2024 was the club’s first full year without long time rotation stalwart, John Radzinski and the pitching held up surprisingly well, buoyed by a strong sophomore season from righty Jason Lu and an outstanding rookie season from Matt McQuaid not to mention big time contributions from Jake Simpson. Los Cubs have been active this offseason and if their strong core can continue to produce they should, once again, provide significant headaches for opponents.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Goats | 2024 Record: 13 - 12</image:title>
<image:caption>The Goats quietly came out of nowhere in their first year in the PCBL and made it all the way to the playoffs only to drop a heartbreaker to the Hens in the first round. Co-manager Brendan Mapes was an absolute monster at the plate hitting .514 over 23 games and he wasn’t too shabby on the bump either posting a 3.75 ERA over 24 1/3 innings. Offensively he was ably backed up by Josh Chin, Milo Sklar, and Kevin O’Rourke and rotation mates Moses Tannenbaum, Dan Alter, and Andrew Goldstein. The offseason saw the Goats making some moves as it became clear that co-manager, Sklar, was going to be shelved for much of the 2025 season with shoulder woes. The team picked up Jorge Lopez from the Legends, a move that should pay dividends on both sides of the ball. Questions: The Goats ran a tight ship with a relatively thin roster last season which is always nice—if you can manage it. But that thinness came back to bite them at the end of the season. Are they properly fortified for another run to the playoffs? Can they withstand the loss of Sklar? Prediction: Mapes will probably win you five or six games almost single-handedly and he’s also proved himself to be an agile and more than competent manager. He knows what’s necessary to win games. Look to the Goats to be better than their rookie season and find themselves in the hunt for the ‘chip again.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Harlem HA’s | 2024 Record: 12 - 13 The HA’s came on strong in their first year in the PCBL. They appeared to have the bats, the arms, and the energy to make a serious statement in their rookie year. But then the injury bug hit them hard and suddenly they were stretched thin as manager Mario Padron had his club playing in two very competitive leagues. But the HA’s fought through all the hardships to narrowly miss the playoffs. And as all good teams know, if you learn from your mistakes you only become stronger. And Padron and the HA’s certainly seemed to have learned from their struggles. When reached for comment on their offseason moves Padron stated “With the return of Jayden Vasquez coming back from surgery and with the new additions of two horses, Gaveric Bache and Brian McRedmond, on the mound our rotation is looking scary! We’re ready to show the league what we’re really about. Locked in, never locked out!”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Triboro Tigers | 2024 Record: 9 - 15 The Tigers are entering their fourth year in the PCBL after posting their best showing yet in 2024. The club has had perhaps the most interesting offseason yet as they managed to pry All-League pitcher, Walker Cleveland, from the Legends along with catcher Jake Sage. While those moves in-and-of themselves will certainly add to their win total, they also grabbed stand-out infielder, Matt Dill, at the draft, as well as Jonavan Osario and Justin Flores. Co-managers Charles Armstrong and Leighton Schlanger confirmed the Tigers offseason moves over a flurry of text messages, adding “our biggest loss is star shortstop, Katsuya Arai, who is going to the DR for a shot to play pro-ball.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Flatbush Owls | 2024 Record: 8 - 16</image:title>
<image:caption>Despite a losing record, the Owls had an impressive rookie season. Brothers by blood, co-managers by choice, AJ and Lucas Friedman, put together an impressive club that was in the hunt for the playoffs right up until the final weeks of the season. As with all first year teams, you are searching for your core who will carry you and the Owls certainly found that and then some in the likes of Julien Amorelli, Domenick Raphael, Nate Barnett, and Jack Zurier. While the offensive side of things looked good for the Owls, the other side of the ball was not quite as nice (5.756 ERA). But the Friedmans are no dummies. The Owls had one of the more exciting offseasons of any club, netting perhaps the premiere free agent, righty Jackson Emus. Returning to the Owls with Emus is college teammate, Bryce Keller. If the Owls can put all these pieces together week in and week out, watch out.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Monarchs are entering their fourth year in the league along with the Tigers. Though they’ve struggled in years past, the second half of last season started to see things click, in no small part due to the mid-season acquisition of all-league caliber player, Chase Jeter. The wiley lefty hit .480 over nine games and gave up no hits while notching 15 strikeouts over seven innings of work. His addition as a closer made for a tough assignment for opposing hitters, with aces Matt Gertz and Jonathan Lustberg now putting the ball in his capable hands. Gertz and Lustberg also put up big numbers at the plate along with Anthony Del Greco.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Skyscrapers | 2024 Record: 2-18-2</image:title>
<image:caption>The Skyscrapers were one of the most confounding teams in 2024. While their record in their first season in the PCBL wasn’t pretty, it also doesn’t tell the whole story. They lost 10 games by two runs or less. So they were right in most of their games and were certainly competitive but just couldn’t quite make it over the hump. But that could all be changing this season. With the number one pick at the draft they netted Andrew Workman who looks to be an absolutely huge pickup. And if longtime rotation anchor Jared Slow and Matt Kilefner and Ryan Pfutzenreuter can keep delivering, we're looking at a different team. On the offensive side the Skyscrapers should be in good shape if Dexter Garcia, Chris Kane, and Andrew Field continue to put up big numbers. Turning around an 18 loss season is a tall order but sometimes one or two pieces can make it all click. Questions: Workman looks great on paper but how will he look between the lines of the North Meadow? Will Kane, Garcia, and Field be enough depth to see significant improvements? Will the ‘scrapers defense back up what is sure to be solid pitching? Will manager / longtime player Mozez Ortiz stepping away from the playing side of things be a positive or a negative? Prediction: Look for the Skyscrapers to turn many of those two run losses to wins. It may not be enough to make them a legitimate contender yet but look for them to break some hearts along their way to a much improved record.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Mariners | 2024 Record (QABL): 15 - 10</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mariners struck fear into the PCBL in the late teens, winning the championship in 2019 and then leaving for New Jersey for a few years and then Queens. But they are now back and ready to see if they can pick up where they left off. Of course, the league is a much different beast than when they left but the Mariners are a confident group with some serious talent. Manager, Jaret Perez, explains some of the club’s recent comings and goings: “In 2019 I closed out the game against the Angels to put the Mariners in the championship for the first time ever. After that we would go on to win our first championship but we would then take some time off due to the pandemic. We then took the team across a couple different leagues in Jersey and New York City. After 5 years we’ve decided we would love to rejoin the Pancho Coimbre league”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Brooklyn Dukes</image:title>
<image:caption>The Dukes are approaching (or may have already entered) dynasty territory, appearing in the last three championships and winning the last two. Manager Carlyle Leach has built this squad on the time honored tradition of pitching, defense, and just enough offense to rack up those Ws. Though they stumbled out of the gate last year they quickly righted the ship, roaring to an undefeated post-season, eventually defeating the Cubs in a two game sweep to hoist the trophy in victory. With the always strong double play combo of shortstop (and co-manager) Auguste Leach and second baseman Kyle Diangkinay manning the infield and catcher Ryan Kass guiding the tough-as-nails pitching staff (helmed by longtime Duke, James Usher), the Dukes appear primed to make a run at a three-peat. A couple questions: 2023 rookie standout, Daniel Davidoff, has been hampered by injuries this offseason. Will he be ready to go come opening day? If not, will the Dukes have the offensive firepower to continue their winning ways? And, with the Dukes’ target on their back growing larger, daily, will they be able to withstand the increased competition that comes with being king of the hill (or in this case, meadow)?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Downtown Bulls</image:title>
<image:caption>The Bulls came out blasting in 2023 led by the fearsome rookie class of Felix King, Matt Hochberg, Jared Sapirman, Alonzo Cee, Lucas Furneri, Mike Cellini, and Arquimedes De La Cruz. A fairytale season saw their magic carpet ride come to an untimely end when they were knocked out in a wild first round of the playoffs by the Cubs, leaving the Bulls with a bitter taste in their mouths. To fortify the 2024 team, the Bulls raided the coffers of the now defunct Clippers, adding league strikeout leader from 2023, Matt Kelly, along with Jimmy Gabberty, Jonathan Flete, Jon Uva, Rob Wolf, Derek Maldonado, Rob Cocuzzo, and James Borelli. And with all their standout rookies returning for another run — backing up ace Paulie Baumann and key offseason acquisition, big right hander Keiber Guttierez — the Bulls are looking to prove that this team is not a flash in the pan. A couple questions: Rookie sensation, Jared Sapirman, has yet to appear in any preseason workouts due to nagging injuries. Will he be ready to go for opening day and if so, at what capacity? How will the ex-Clippers mesh with the Bulls? And, will the Bulls’ highflying rookies from 2023 be brought back down to earth in 2024?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Los Cubs</image:title>
<image:caption>The Cubs are perennial Central Park contenders also making a run at a dynasty after appearing in three of the last four championship series, winning one in 2021. Manager Solomon Prophete has built his club on the backs of longstanding league and team stalwarts like shortstop Mark Minutaglio, backstop, Leandro Inoa, infielder, Adam Caparell, rotation anchor, John Radzinski, centerfielder, Joaquin Sapien, and bashers like Adam Lowenthal. Last year saw the addition of hard-hitting lefty, Kenneth Hart, and hard-throwing righty, Jake Simpson. Though the 2023 regular season was uneven, the recipe worked when it mattered most as the Cubs withstood the upstart Bulls to make it into the Championship series versus the Dukes. The Dukes ended up sweeping them but the Cubs put up a battle in a game two defeat that made them remember they still have what it takes to go all the way. With a slight overhaul this offseason featuring the addition of at least four rookies, the Cubs will be looking to do just that. A couple questions: First and foremost, longtime ace, Radzinski has retired / moved to LA. Can the Cubs come anywhere close to duplicating his production on the mound? Will a Cubs youth movement prove to be enough to get them back to the promised land?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Legends</image:title>
<image:caption>Another longtime Central Park denizen, the Legends are also longtime attendees in the postseason. But the club hasn’t raised the championship trophy since 2018 and they are itching to get back in it. This will be the third year of the “new” regime of co-managers, Daniel Brickner and JT Cubano. After a rocky start last year the Legends hit their stride mid-season and nabbed the fourth and final playoff spot only to be quickly ousted by the eventual champs, the Dukes. 2024 looks to be a different story as the duo has spent a busy off-season recruiting and picked up some very good players at the annual Pancho Coimbre draft. With the new additions joining an already strong core of Cato Bauer, Kenny Dorian, Cubano, Jesse Cooper-Leary, Tommy Verdon, and Jake Fienberg, the Legends appear poised to make a deep run. A couple questions: Longtime Legend, John Treat, has moved to the west coast. Can ex-Angel, Jorge Lopez, adequately fill his shoes? Will the Legends be able to avoid their legendary slow starts? Will their big off-season acquisition, lefty Walker Cleveland, live up to the hype?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Triboro Tigers</image:title>
<image:caption>The Tigers started 2023 off hot, winning four of the first seven games (and tying one) including an early season upset of the Dukes. But as the season wore on, a nine game losing streak brought them back to earth, leaving them with a sixth place finish. But strong showings from rookies, Alex Sanchez, on the offensive end and Jack Hendon on the bump gave the team reasons to believe and build on. However, the offseason hasn’t been kind to the Tigers as they have, to date, been unable to sign their #1 draft pick, Maxx Estrin. Still, fellow draftees Matthew Koplowitz and Jayden Veloz should ease the pain and help the Tigers build on their winning ways in 2024. A couple questions: How much impact will the return of standout shortstop, Chris Carroll, have on the team? Can the club find that consistent roster week in and week out that will keep them out of prolonged slumps? Can they come to terms with first round draft pick, Estrin?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Kings County Monarchs</image:title>
<image:caption>The Monarchs are a team that seems to be on the brink of a breakthrough year. They lost five games in 2023 by two runs or less and also featured a tie in that time span. If they can figure out how to turn those tight game losses into tight game wins they will make huge strides and just might find themselves knocking on the door to the playoffs. Despite a controversial draft, the Monarchs put together quite a haul that should prove massively beneficial including #1 overall pick, right hander, Matt Gertz, second rounder, Daisuke Miyama, and #3 overall pick, Logan Sharp. Managers Rico Gardaphe and Justin Cutler will be working the phones right up to opening day to keep improving this squad to support standouts Chris Batista, Jonathan Lustberg, Christian Hartman, Brent Cork, and Anthony Del Greco. A couple questions: After a tumultuous offseason will all the work of Gardaphe and Cutler payoff? Can the Monarchs withstand the loss of five regulars? Can they turn those close games into wins?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Mudhens</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mudhens are longtime New York City mashers who have been putting the hurt on the Metro League Double AA division for a longtime now and they hope to replicate that success in 2024 in the Pancho Coimbre Baseball League. As manager Blake Lepire puts it, “The Hens were founded in 2007 by a group of friends from Westchester county with a network of baseball players from High School baseball, Dickinson College, and Boston University that formed the core of the team for a decade. “Most of our guys arrive in New York City thinking baseball is in the rear view mirror. But when they find the Hens, they also find the best form of baseball ahead and a home in the big city." A couple questions: Will the Hens’ brand of baseball that worked so well in the Metro League translate to Central Park? Can the Hens break their years of runners-up status and win it all in 2024?</image:caption>

Managed by Lucas Friedman with an assist from brother AJ, the Owls look to bring their string of success to the North Meadow. As the Friedmans put it, “the majority of our team are former members of the Hudson Hurricanes, a team that competes in the high A division of the NYC metro baseball league. The Hurricanes have consistently competed for championships since their inception, either reaching or winning a summer or fall championship each year.” A couple questions: The Owls are named in honor of Barry the Owl, tragically killed in Central Park in 2021, and Flaco, the recently deceased Eurasian Eagle Owl who escaped from the Central Park Zoo last year. Can the Flatbush Owls use Flaco’s sad demise to drive them to the promised land? <image:caption>The Goats join Pancho Coimbre as an offshoot of the Astoria Mets of the Metro League. Managed by Milo Sklar and Brendan Mapes, the newly formed club looks to repeat the success that the Mets enjoyed in Metro. With a strong core “from Brooklyn and Queens —half the team is a group that has played together the last few seasons for the Astoria Mets in NYC Metro, the other half played together in college (D3 Oberlin)” the new managers feel confident that they will be able to bring a lot of that Mets Magic to the North Meadow. <image:caption>Another team with a long history in New York City, the Skyscrapers join Pancho after an uncharacteristically down season in 2023. Manager Mozez Ortiz looks to put that season in the rearview mirror after a successful fall season and an offseason full of moves, including key pickups in A.P. Duran, Dexter Garcia, Evan Gitlitz, Will Spencer, and Will Garces. Ortiz and Scraper mainstays like Jared Slow have tasted the pinnacles of success before. Can they do it again? A couple questions: Sometimes you’ve got to hit rock bottom to make it to the top. Are the Skyscrapers ready to ascend to their proper place in the standings in 2024? Can their big off-season acquisitions deliver? Do they have what it takes to quiet the naysayers once and for all?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Harlem HA’s</image:title>
<image:caption>Rounding out the Pancho Coimbre Baseball League in 2024 are the Harlem HA’s. Managed by Mario Padron, “the Harlem HA’s is a baseball club focused on empowering our players to embrace excellence, teamwork, and resilience, our mission is to cultivate a passion for the game of baseball.” As Padron notes, “The Harlem HA’s history starts in 2022 with their inaugural season in the 2022 Fall Queens Alliance Baseball League (QABL). Since that first season the HA’s have participated in the QABL Fall League and have made the playoffs every time. Many of the players are already acclimated to playing summer ball, as some players are from the Two-Time defending QABL Summer Champions, Ridgewood Saints.” A couple questions: Can the HA’s handle the heat of a full summer season in Central Park? Fall ball is a different, kinder, gentler animal. If their workouts are any indication, they’ll be ready. Can they bring that same passion and joy they bring to the cages to the North Meadow week in and week out from April to August?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Uptown Angels</image:title>
<image:caption>The Angels had one of the best seasons in the North Meadow in recent memory in 2022 but ultimately fell to the Dukes, two games to one to miss out on their first championship. Primarily known as bashers in years past, in 2022 they added to their arsenal by bringing on ex-Met farmhand, right hander William Weitzman, who went on to dominate the league from day one. He also proved to be a basher in his own right, hitting over .400 on the season and driving in runs at an alarming rate. Additionally, third baseman, Manny Santiago, seemed to blossom defensively and offensively, providing a huge spark at the hot corner. With both Weitzman and Santiago returning, as well as catcher, Christopher Jackson, and center fielder, Devon Marrero, the Angels and longtime player/manager, Chris Pena, are confident they can upend the Dukes and the rest of the league to finally take their first Central Park Championship. A Couple Questions: Adding intrigue to the off-season for the Angels was the pickup of the aforementioned departed Dukes backstop, Wil Collazzo. Wil is known for his ability to spark his teams to greater heights but will he fit in on an already feisty Angels roster? And will a potential position change affect his play? Additionally, the Angels parted ways with longtime rotation anchor, Eric Perez. Who will follow Weitzman now?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Central Park Los Cubs</image:title>
<image:caption>The stalwarts of the North Meadow had what, for them, would be considered a down year. They snuck into the playoffs on the last weekend of the season and were promptly swept from the postseason by the Dukes in Round 1. The Cubs never quite hit their now-expected late season stride and felt like a team in transition. Still, with shortstop Mark Minutaglio continuing to vacuum up balls and side-winding righty John Radzinski climbing the hill every weekend for the red and blue can you really ever bet against them? Manager Solomon Prophete and co-manager, Mike Pollak, spent the off-season plugging the holes and filling the gaps and firmly believe the Cubbies will be back in championship form in 2023. A Couple Questions: After Radzinski and his 1.108 era over 65 innings the Cubs depended on a scatter shot approach to the rest of their rotation after longtime anchor Marco Baratta was limited to only three innings due to injury. The results were mixed. Their number 2 and 3, Ryan Bondy and Edwin Cruz respectively, got roughed up a bit. The likes of Patrick Lopez, John Stewart, and Ryan Burke showed flashes of brilliance but only pitched a combined 26.2 innings. Will that be enough to carry the Cubbies to the promised land?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Legends</image:title>
<image:caption>Another North Meadow mainstay, the Legends have been a team in transition since longtime manager, Tom O’Connor, handed over the reins to teammates, Daniel Brickner and JT Cubano. But truth be told, the change in management did little to slow down the Legends as they finished third in 2022, hot on the heels of the Angels. Unfortunately injuries hit at just the wrong time and the Angels made quick work of the Legends in the first round of the playoffs. But the Legends remain undeterred and have been able to consistently flood their roster with a steady supply of young talent that has kept the club competitive year in and year out. Don’t expect 2023 to be any different. A Couple Questions: Can the Legend’s big three rotation of Matteo Fochetta, Tony Baglivo, and Tommy Verdon deliver another combined outstanding year and continue to hand the ball over to lights out closer Matt Nunez with the lead? And on the offensive side of things can Cato Bauer, John Treat, and manager Cubano continue to produce eye-popping numbers for the middle of the Legend’s stacked lineup?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Downtown Bulls</image:title>
<image:caption>After finishing 2 - 19 in 2019 and losing out to Covid in 2020, the Bulls didn’t fare much better in 2021, posting a 3 - 14 - 1 record. After three dispiriting years of baseball, manager Andrew Wagner made some big changes that paid big dividends in 2022. Focusing on pitching depth the Bulls climbed out of the cellar on the backs of longtime starter, Paulie Baumann and newcomer, Brian Maloney, remaining in the playoff hunt right up until the last two weekends of the season when an ill-timed four game losing streak sunk their dreams. Still, finishing 9 - 12 gave the club a boost of confidence and a sense of what needs to be done to compete in the competitive North Meadow. Remarkably, the Bulls lost 5 one run games in 2022. To put that in perspective, if they could flip those one run losses to one run wins they would’ve finished the season 14 - 7 and found themselves sitting pretty for a playoff run. But woulda, shoulda, coulda doesn’t cut it in this league or any other. So the Bulls spent an intensive offseason rebuilding again, bringing in some highly sought-after, free-agent acquisitions including co-manager / outfielder Henry Ginna to help get those extra runs across the plate. A Couple Questions: Can the Bulls figure out how to turn one run losses into one run victories and reach the playoffs for the first time since 2018? Another nagging question the Bulls will have to contend with: will they be able to overcome the semi-retirement of longtime catcher and bonafide Bulls great, Joe Wolf?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Kings County Monarchs</image:title>
<image:caption>The Monarchs were one of three new teams joining the league in 2022. The landing in Central Park is often tough for new teams unaware and unaccustomed to the level of competition. Despite a rude introduction to the league, the Monarchs found their footing toward the end of the season, finishing with a 6 - 14 record and knocking the Bulls out of playoff contention on the final weekend. With standout performances from the likes of Brent Cork (.458 average over nine games), Anthony Del Greco (.389 average over 13 games), and Daniel Fernadez (.321 average over 12 games) the Monarchs scored plenty of runs. But they also gave up plenty of runs. A Couple Questions: The always wheeling and dealing managerial duo of Rico Gardaphe and Justin Cutler have spent the off-season armed with the knowledge of what they need to do to compete. They’ve brought on plenty of new talent to support an already talented offensive core. Can they also effectively stack their rotation to support the likes of Jonathan Lustberg (3.088 ERA) and can rotation stalwarts Chris Batista and Rhett Hoskinson rebound from down years in 2022?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Triboro Tigers</image:title>
<image:caption>Another newcomer to Central Park in 2022, the Tigers went through early trials and tribulations only to hit their stride late in the season to finish the year at 5 - 15 - 1. The Tigers had a strong offensive core with four players appearing in over 12 games while hitting over .315. The problem was the drop-off after that was pretty steep as the team registered a .231 average. The Tigers’ arms kept them in games with manager Charles Armstrong, Raul Hernandez, Anthony Bocchino, and George Correa contributing quality innings all season. After finishing the season on a high note, including a three game win streak and taking home the “consolation tournament” trophy, as well as making some big off-season acquisitions, the Tigers are poised to make a big jump up in the standings. A Couple Questions: Standout shortstop, Chris Carroll, left this offseason to join the Hudson Hurricanes in the Metro League, taking his sure hands, perfect attendance record, and .371 batting average with him. That type of steadiness and output is tough to replace. Will the Tigers be able to withstand the loss?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The New York Clippers</image:title>
<image:caption>The Clippers also joined Pancho Coimbre in 2022 and had a hard freshman year. The Clippers were formed in 2021 in the Metro League by Rob Wolf and the team was in flux when the 2022 season got started as several key players jumped ship to the Hudson Valley League right before Opening Day. That roster fluctuation made for choppy waters as the Clippers finished the season 3 - 17 - 1. But like the Tigers and the Monarchs, there were some bright spots at the end of the season, including the pick-up of pitcher Matt Kelly who demonstrated his worth by one-hitting the first place Dukes over six shutout innings in late July. With Kelly’s return for the full 2023 season imminent and the hopeful health of stud starter Jon Uva, the Clippers have reasons to be very excited about their rotation. And with the return of a strong offensive core featuring the bats of Rob Cocuzzo, John Flete, Wolf, Michael Gallinari, and Jimmy Gabberty as well as the addition of 2023’s number one draft pick, Matt Toy, the Clippers believe they’ve put it all together to make big jumps in 2023. A Couple Questions: Have the rough seas of roster fluctuation finally settled down enough for the Clippers to make a real run at the playoffs? Do they have the depth to put a competitive squad on the field week in and week out from April to August? Only time will tell.</image:caption>
